“NUTRIFEST-24.09.2018-“Better Nutrition – A Key to Future Health”
“NUTRIFEST-2018”, an intercollegiate meet was organized by the Research Centre of Home Science, Fatima College on September 24, 2018.This year’s theme was “Better Nutrition – A Key to Future Health”. As many as 14 colleges from across the state actively registered for the competitions that were contrived based on the theme.
The
day started with the inaugural function held at San Jose Seminar Hall. The
chief guest for the function was S.Jayakumar, Additional Director of Rural
Development (Retired), Chennai. The lamp was lighted by the chief guest and
staff members of the department. The welcome address was given Dr.Vasantha
Esther Rani, Head, Research Centre of Home Science who welcomed the gathering
and honoured the chief guest with a memento. The inaugural address was
delivered by the chief guest, S.Jeyakumar. He described on the importance of
having nutritious food to lead a healthy life. His speech about traditional
foods that were based on native, unrefined ingredients having a better effect
on overall health of the body largely captivated the audience. He also spoke
about the interesting relationship between food and astrology and how a food
determines one’s day-to-day activities.
This
was followed by screening of the promotional video for ‘NUTRIFEST-2018’ and a
cultural performance by the students.
The
inaugural function ended with vote of thanks delivered by Mrs.Magdalene Virjini,
Assistant Professor, Research Centre of Home Science.
After
a rejuvenating snack break, competitions were conducted. The day long
competitions held at different venues were:
1. Fireless
Cooking
2. Nutrinews
3. Adact
4. Nutriquiz
5. Group
Dance
Participants
from various colleges took part in the competitions enthusiastically and
performed diligently to win the prizes. The participants and students were then
directed to a nutritious and enlivening lunch.
The
final competition, Miss.Nutrifest, was conducted in Jubilee Hall. Finalists, who
were selected after a preliminary assessment of nutritional status, presented
themselves in prim and posh attire and answered the questions asked to them
smartly.
After
a brief refreshment break, the valediction programme was held.The chief guest
for the function was ‘Millet Queen’ Krishnakumari Jeyakumar, Chef, Arokiya
Unavu, Jaya TV. The programme started with prayer song.
The
welcome address was given by Mrs. Josephine Jesintha, Assistant Professor,
Research Centre of Home Science, who welcomed the gathering.
Dr.Vasantha
Esther Rani detailed on the achievements
of the department through the years and
also described about the courses offered and various activities carried out by
the department.
This
was followed by Dr. Vasantha Esther Rani honouring the chief guest with a
memento and Dr. Latha,Associate Professor, Research Centre of Home Science,
honouring Rev.Sr.Fransisca Flora, Secretary, Fatima College, who also graced
the occasion with her presence.
The
felicitation address was delivered by Rev.Sr.Fransisca Flora, who prelected the
gathering about the positive outcomes of conducting such intercollegiate meets.
She also discoursed on the importance of healthy food that plays a pivotal role
in maintaining a happy, disease free life. She also stressed on the vile
complications arising due to consumption of fast foods and urged the students
to choose their food wisely.
The
felicitation address was succeeded by the valedictory address given by the
chief guest Krishnakumari Jayakumar. She divulged on the importance of millets
in one’s daily diet that is essential for women’s health and its role in
preventing diabetes and obesity.
This
was followed by the prize distribution. The chief guest gave away the prizes to
the winners of the competitions and crowned the winner and runner-up of
Miss.Nutrifest. Finally, she gave away the overall championship trophy to
students of E.M.G Yadava College for Women, Madurai, who were leading the
scoreboard.
The
vote of thanks for the programme was given by Mrs.C.Helen, Assistant Professor,
Research Centre of Home Science, who thanked all the participants for their
active participation and the sponsors for their financial support. The day
ended with National Anthem.
